**[Kedge](https://community.obsidian.md/plugins/kedge?ref=labnotes.org)** — My very first Obsidian plugin. It helps you organize your work in three buckets. There's the sorted list of next steps to take (the present). You can write notes for your future self and seal them to a later date (the future). And you can save lessons you learned so as not to repeat any mistakes (the past). I know some people will find this super useful, and it is available for free. As for the name, ⚓ Kedge is how you move your ship forward by throwing its anchor the distance.

## Tech Stuff

[**Unleash**](https://www.getunleash.io/?ref=labnotes.org) Open-source feature flag server. Release, experiment, and kill anything AI ships, in real time and without redeploys. I'm only now learning about it, but they've been around for 11 years, so it should be quite a solid product.

[**SLK**](https://getslk.sh/?ref=labnotes.org) The Slack chat UI without the Electron eating up all your RAM and slowing down your computer to a crawl. I'm excited when I see developers getting rid of Electron, whether it's coding in Rust, building TUIs, or going full native.

**[Ludovic Guénet](https://dev-null.sh/@ludoguenet?ref=labnotes.org)** I have stories to tell …

> Remember when setting up CI/CD was the pinnacle of being a developer?

[**The AI cost of JavaScript frameworks**](https://nolanlawson.com/2026/10/28/the-ai-cost-of-javascript-frameworks/?ref=labnotes.org) Apparently LLMs have JavaScript frameworks that they find easier to use, or you can say LLMs are getting productive by spending fewer tokens.

> 100% test coverage sounds beautiful
>
> untill production discovers the one assumption nobody tested 😹
>
> Coverage tells us which code executed It doesn’t tell us whether we tested the right behavior 🤠

[**Tinycast**](https://tinycast.dev/?ref=labnotes.org) An open source alternative to Raycast that has many of the same features of convenience, and can even run Raycast extensions. (I don’t hate on Raycast, but good to know there’s an alternative if at some point I need to switch)

[**postslop**](https://github.com/bangnokia/postslop?ref=labnotes.org) Open-source post scheduler for X, Bluesky, LinkedIn, Threads and dev-null.sh. It needs no API keys: it posts with the accounts you are already signed in to.

[**Radovan Rockov**](https://dev-null.sh/@Navodar/commits/01a1a6c3-1fc2-7038-87b9-d5ad3fce926f?ref=labnotes.org) ☂️

> Carrying an umbrella is basically just dev ops: you set up the infrastructure, hope for zero leaks, and pray the wind doesn't break everything in production.

[**OpenBooks**](https://github.com/braedonsaunders/openbooks?ref=labnotes.org) A self-hosted accounting suite with double-entry booking. Every figure on the P&L drills down to the source document and journal entry. Start on invoices and bank records, then add inventory, payroll, and multi-entity.

## Eye for Design

[**Jitesh Ghanchi**](https://dev-null.sh/@jeeiee/commits/01a19c77-bca1-7015-8914-523dee3bf274?ref=labnotes.org) This:

> Don't build software people can comfortably ignore. Build software that prevents problems they cannot afford to ignore.

[**Shane Smith**](https://dev-null.sh/@shane-smith?ref=labnotes.org)

> Don't ask the user for things you can infer.
>
> Ask them for minimal information that only they can provide & infer (but confirm) the rest.
>
> Give a walk-through for new users that are unfamiliar, give experienced users faster path, use branching questions.

## Business Side

[**Lovro Papež**](https://dev-null.sh/@cannonsh/commits/01a1a1e9-4113-73c9-a06e-4dc811f71c5a?ref=labnotes.org) The future of SaaS is writing your own code to handle the challenges you tackle:

> Randomly spun up a support application that replaces Jira, becuase I was waiting for the Jira team too long.

## Machine Intelligence

**[Eric Hellman](https://tilde.zone/users/gluejar/statuses/117559748979718063?ref=labnotes.org)**

> The LLMs are creating a new kind of mysticism. At Project Gutenberg, we're starting to get emails they have written trying to contact authors of some of the books we distribute. The authors have been dead for over a hundred years. I'm tempted to answer.

## Insecurity

**[Tilton Raccoon](https://fursuits.online/users/tilton/statuses/117547364630396010?ref=labnotes.org)**

> The fallout from the increasingly bleak computer security landscape SHOULD be: Fewer things connected to the Internet. That would be The Good Ending. No TVs, no thermostats, no god damn refrigerators. These things should never have been on the Internet in the first place.

[**Zero Wire**](https://radar.cloudflare.com/security/zero-wire?ref=labnotes.org) A public vulnerability intelligence feed.

> A team is trying to build a system that will save the world, but the builds keep failing. Someone keeps adding to the scope. And the project manager is asking for an update every 15 min.
