Software is all in your head

Pragmatic Thinking and Learning: Refactor Your Wetware has been out for awhile, I just learned about it today. The book is all about the software side of software development: our brains. I know most software developers, right there with economists, like to believe people are rational and so are the decisions we make, but guess what?

I can’t say anything about the book which I only just added to my wish list, but I did enjoy watching the video:

In the course of researching and writing my new book, ‘Pragmatic Thinking & Learning,’ I discovered a number of interesting things about the brain, and cognition, some of which explains why we take programming languages so personally.

If you have QuickTime, do yourself a favor and download it from blip.tv, open the A/V controls (Cmd-K) and set playback speed to 2x. QuickTime works it magic to speed the video up without sounding like a chipmunk. Third video I watched at 2x this weekend: why did no one tell me about this feature before?
