If only iTunes was as good as NetFlix

I like iTunesTV. For the number of shows I watch, it’s cheaper than cable (and I don’t own a TV anyway). I still think it’s expensive at $1.99 an episode, if they charged less I would watch more. But then, affordable is what NetFlix is for. It’s DRM, but who cares if I only watch each episode once?

Anyway, I decided to get the entire first season of Lost on iTunesTV. Supposedly for the convenience of downloading it all in one go. What a mistake. Given how many DVDs I can have in rotation, it costs four times more than NetFlix. Which would be worth it, if there was a convenience.

But iTunes downloads the episodes in some random order, so I have to wait a week before I can watch them in order. Can download be slower than the US postal service? And that’s if they download … apparently, if I’m not watching the computer it stops downloading with some undocumented error code (8003 and some large negative value).

This didn’t happen with individual shows, so I’m still going to get those on iTunesTV. But the second season will be promptly delivered, no fuss or overcharge, courtesy of NetFlix.
